Black Double Pallu Handloom Berhampuri Pure Silk Patta Saree with Fish Motifs

A handwoven black Berhampuri patta saree in pure silk from Berhampur, Odisha, with small woven fish motifs across a checked body and a double pallu in bright bands. The jet black body carries fine silver-white checks with a fish buti in each square, the borders are woven in antique gold and silver zari, and both pallu ends are banded in yellow, cobalt blue, maroon and green with elephants, deer and chakra medallions. About Berhampuri patta silk

Berhampur patta is a GI-tagged pure silk from Berhampur, Ganjam district, Odisha. Its signature is the phoda kumbha, a temple motif woven into the border and pallu, and the sarees were traditionally offered to Lord Jagannath. The fish is a common motif in Odia weaving and is seen as a sign of good fortune. As a handloom weave, small irregularities in weave or colour are a natural sign of handwork, not a defect.

Care

Dry clean only. Store the saree wrapped in a soft cotton or muslin cloth, away from moisture. Refold it every few months so the zari and folds do not crack. Do not spray perfume directly on the silk or zari, and iron on low heat with a cloth in between.
