About Sambalpuri

Sambalpuri weaving comes from western Odisha, mainly Sambalpur, Bargarh and Sonepur, and is GI-tagged as Sambalpuri Bandha saree and fabrics. Bandha means tie-and-dye ikat. Classic motifs include shankha (conch), chakra (wheel), phula (flower), rudraksha and pasapalli, a chessboard check.

Care

Hand wash each piece separately in cold water before stitching to pre-shrink the fabric, and dry in shade. Use a mild detergent for the first wash, as handloom dyes may bleed slightly. Iron on medium heat. Light starch keeps the cotton crisp.
