Dark Burgundy and Teal Sambalpuri Handloom Cotton Dress Material

A handwoven dark burgundy and teal Sambalpuri handloom cotton dress material from Odisha. The dark burgundy kurta fabric is covered in large teal and maroon paisley ikat motifs on an ikat diamond background, paired with a solid teal bottom and a teal dupatta with black-edged borders and maroon and white floral bands. An unstitched cotton set for daily, office and festive wear.

• Top: Dark burgundy cotton with large teal and maroon paisley ikat motifs on an ikat diamond backdrop. Top fabric: 2.5 x 1.17 metres.
• Bottom: Solid teal cotton: 2 x 1.12 metres.
• Dupatta: Teal base with black-edged borders, bandha accents and bands of maroon and white floral and geometric motifs: 2.5 x 0.91 metres.
• Set: Unstitched, for suits, kurtas or Indo-western styles.

About Sambalpuri handloom

Sambalpuri weaving comes from Sambalpur, Bargarh and Sonepur (Subarnapur) in western Odisha, and Sambalpuri Bandha fabrics carry a GI tag. In bandha, the yarns are tied and dyed in sections before they go on the loom, so the pattern appears as the cloth is woven. Because it is handloom, small irregularities in weave or colour are a natural sign of handwork, not a defect.

Care

Hand wash each piece separately in cold water before stitching to pre-shrink the fabric, and dry in shade. For the first wash, dry clean or hand wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent, as handloom dyes may bleed slightly. Iron on medium heat; light starch keeps the cotton crisp.
