A handwoven red and black Pochampally ikat saree in pure silk from Telangana, with geometric ikat patterns on the body, a golden zari border with an ikat design and a contrast black pallu. The zari border gives it a dressier finish for festivals, family functions and evening gatherings.

Design details

  • Body: Vibrant red and black with intricate geometric ikat patterns.
  • Border: Golden zari border with an ikat design.
  • Pallu: Contrast black pallu.
  • Fabric: Pure silk, handcrafted on a handloom.
  • Handloom: Hand ikat leaves a slightly blurred edge on each motif, and small variations in weave or colour are a natural sign of handwork, not a defect.
  • Blouse: Comes with an unstitched blouse piece.

Occasions and styling

The zari border makes this one of the more festive Pochampally pieces, good for festivals, family functions and evening events. A black silk blouse ties in with the pallu, and gold chandbalis pick up the zari.

About Pochampally Ikat

Pochampally Ikat is woven in Bhoodan Pochampally and nearby villages in Telangana and is GI-tagged. It is an ikat, or tie-and-dye, technique: sections of yarn are resist-dyed before weaving. Look for the slightly blurred edge on the motifs, which shows the pattern was made by hand ikat and not printed.

Care

Dry clean only. Store the saree wrapped in a soft cotton or muslin cloth, away from moisture. Refold it every few months so the zari does not crack along the folds. Do not spray perfume directly on the silk or zari. Iron on low heat with a cloth in between.
