Pochampally Ikat is a GI-tagged weave from Bhoodan Pochampally and nearby villages in Telangana. The yarns are resist-dyed in sections before weaving, so the pattern appears as the cloth is woven, with a slightly blurred edge that marks hand ikat. Mercerised cotton is treated to be stronger, smoother and more lustrous, and Pochampally mercerised ikat sarees are light and easy to drape.

For the first wash, dry clean or hand wash the saree separately in cold water with a mild detergent, as handloom dyes may bleed slightly. Dry it in shade. Iron on medium heat, and a light starch keeps the cotton crisp.
