A handwoven white and red Sambalpuri saree in pure silk from Odisha, with small red buttas across the white body, a bold red and black pasapalli border and a red pallu. The chessboard-check pasapalli border is a signature Sambalpuri motif. It suits festivals, family functions and cultural gatherings.

Design details

  • Body: White with small red buttas scattered across it.
  • Border: Bold red and black pasapalli design.
  • Pallu: Intricate red pallu.
  • Fabric: Pure silk, lightweight and comfortable.
  • Handloom: Woven on a hand-operated loom by a weaver, so small irregularities in weave or colour are a natural sign of handwork, not a defect.
  • Blouse: Comes with an unstitched blouse piece.

Occasions and styling

The white and red palette is a classic for festivals and cultural events. A red blouse with silver jewellery keeps the white body crisp and bright. Keep the pallu open on the shoulder so the red end is visible.

About Sambalpuri

Sambalpuri sarees are woven in western Odisha, in Sambalpur, Bargarh and Sonepur (Subarnapur), and are GI-tagged as Sambalpuri Bandha saree and fabrics. Bandha is Odisha's tie-and-dye ikat. The pasapalli motif is a chessboard check inspired by the game of pasa.

Care

Dry clean only. Store the saree wrapped in a soft cotton or muslin cloth, away from moisture, and refold it every few months. Do not spray perfume directly on the silk. Iron on low heat with a cloth in between.
