Occasions and styling

This dark green and red saree works well for office days, summer pujas and casual festive gatherings. Pair it with a red blouse to pick up the border, and add gold-toned jhumkas and a few glass bangles. Handloom cotton is light and breathable, so it stays comfortable through a long, warm day.

About Sambalpuri ikat

Sambalpuri sarees are woven in western Odisha, in and around Sambalpur, Bargarh and Sonepur (Subarnapur), and the Sambalpuri Bandha saree is a GI-tagged weave. Bandha is Odisha's tie-and-dye ikat: the yarns are resist-dyed in sections before weaving, so the pattern appears as the cloth is woven. Small irregularities in the pattern are a natural sign of handloom work, not a defect.

Care

For the first wash, dry clean or hand wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent, as handloom dyes may bleed slightly. Dry in shade. Iron on medium heat; a light starch keeps cotton crisp.
