A handwoven navy blue, maroon and yellow Pochampally Ikat saree in pure silk from Pochampally, Telangana, woven in a patola-style pattern. The navy base carries geometric ikat in maroon, yellow and white, while the pallu and part of the body show white diamond ikat motifs. It suits festivals, family functions and evening gatherings.

Design details

  • Body: Navy blue base with patola-style geometric ikat in maroon, yellow and white, plus a section of white diamond ikat.
  • Border: Ornate ikat borders.
  • Pallu: Ikat pallu with white diamond motifs.
  • Design: Patola-style motifs woven in Pochampally ikat, not a Gujarat Patan patola.
  • Fabric: Pure mulberry silk, light and comfortable.
  • Blouse: Comes with an unstitched blouse piece.

Occasions and styling

Wear it to festivals, family functions or office events. A maroon blouse with antique gold jhumkas brings out the warm tones of the patola-style pattern.

About Pochampally Ikat

Pochampally Ikat comes from Bhoodan Pochampally and nearby villages in Telangana and is GI-tagged. Yarns are tie-dyed in sections before weaving to build geometric and patola-style patterns. Here, patola design means patola-style motifs woven in Pochampally ikat, while true Patan patola is a Gujarat double ikat.

Care

Dry clean only. Keep the saree wrapped in a soft cotton or muslin cloth and store it away from moisture. Refold it every few months so any zari does not crack along the folds. Avoid spraying perfume directly on the silk, and iron on low heat with a cloth in between.
