It is a good choice for festivals and family functions.

Design details

  • Body: Vivid magenta-pink upper half with woven butis, moving into a turquoise blue lower body with ikat bands.
  • Pallu: Turquoise blue pallu with traditional Sambalpuri motifs, including the chakra (wheel) and flowers.
  • Fabric: Pure mulberry silk woven in the bandha tie-and-dye technique, soft and light.
  • Blouse: Comes with an unstitched blouse piece.

Occasions and styling

It suits festivals, family functions, office events and evening gatherings. Pair it with a turquoise blouse and either gold or silver jewellery, both of which sit well with the pink.

About Sambalpuri weaving

Sambalpuri weaving comes from western Odisha and is GI-tagged as Sambalpuri Bandha sarees and fabrics. Its well-known motifs include the shankha (conch), chakra (wheel), phula (flower), rudraksha and pasapalli, a chessboard check inspired by the game of pasa. It is woven in both silk and cotton.

Care

Dry clean only. Keep the saree wrapped in a soft cotton or muslin cloth and store it away from moisture. Refold it every few months so any zari does not crack along the folds. Avoid spraying perfume directly on the silk, and iron on low heat with a cloth in between.
