About Kanjivaram silk

Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu is the home of the Kanjivaram saree, a GI-tagged weave known for heavy mulberry silk and zari. Typical motifs include temple borders, checks, stripes, peacocks, mangoes (paisley), rudraksha and annam (swan). Genuine silk zari has a silk core thread, and a burnt thread of pure silk smells like burnt hair.

Care

Dry clean only. Store the saree wrapped in a soft cotton or muslin cloth, away from moisture. Refold it every few months so the zari does not crack along the folds. Do not spray perfume directly on the silk or zari, and iron on low heat with a cloth in between.
