Design details
- Body: Steel blue katan silk with all-over kadua motifs.
- Fabric: Pure katan silk.
- Weave: Traditional Banarasi handloom in the kadua technique.
- Blouse: Comes with an unstitched blouse piece.
Occasions and styling
Wear it to weddings, receptions, festivals and pujas, where the hand-woven kadua work can be seen up close. Steel blue pairs well with a silver-grey or deep maroon blouse, and polki or antique silver jewellery suits its cool tone. Keep the pleats neat so the all-over motifs show evenly.
About Banarasi katan silk
Katan is pure silk made by twisting silk filaments, so the fabric is smooth and strong. Kadhua, also written kadwa, is the most labour-intensive Banarasi method: each motif is woven separately by hand and there are no loose threads at the back. Banarasi weaving comes from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and is GI-tagged as Banaras Brocades and Sarees.
Care
Dry clean only. Store the saree wrapped in a soft cotton or muslin cloth, away from moisture, and refold it every few months. Do not spray perfume directly on the silk, and iron on low heat with a cloth in between.
