About Kanjivaram silk

Kanjivaram sarees are woven in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, and Kanchipuram Silk is GI-tagged. They are heavy mulberry silk sarees with zari, and traditionally the border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked with the body (the korvai technique), so they do not come apart. Typical motifs include temple borders, checks, stripes, peacocks, mangoes (paisley), rudraksha and annam (swan).

Care

Dry clean only. Store the saree wrapped in a soft cotton or muslin cloth, away from moisture. Refold it every few months so the zari does not crack along the folds. Do not spray perfume directly on silk or zari, and iron on low heat with a cloth in between.
