Blue and red is a classic Odia handloom pairing that works for office wear, pujas, festivals and family functions, and the cotton keeps it comfortable through a long day. Pair it with the red blouse and silver or oxidised jewellery.

About Nabakothi and Nuapatna ikat

Nuapatna in Cuttack district, Odisha, is one of the state's best-known ikat weaving centres and the home of Khandua silk. Its weavers use the bandha tie-and-dye technique, in which the yarns are resist-dyed in sections before weaving, so the pattern appears as the cloth is woven. Nabakothi, meaning nine chambers, is a classic Odia layout in which the body is divided into a grid of boxes, each filled with a motif.

Care

Dry clean for the first wash. After that, hand wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent. Do not soak for long or wring tightly. Dry in the shade to protect the colours, and iron on medium heat on the reverse side.
